“What do you call kids that love to spend time on the ice? Chill-dren.”
Anonymous pun
The wintry mix arrived and along with it came our complete loss of power this morning. Everything is covered with a layer of ice. I’m glad I can stay home today. Hope you can too. It was eerily quiet when I woke up and now the wind is picking up. That might knock some ice off of the branches but it might also cause some limbs to just snap off. The weather people estimated that we’d get 1/4-1/2″ of ice and I think they were correct. Its hard to see but there is a thin layer of ice on everything. This has happened before but the last time, was a quick freeze in the fall while the trees were still fully dressed in their leaves. That made them heavy and they were snapping under the weight. This can be dangerous, so until we sort things out, we stay inside. The alpacas all have the same idea. It’s not easy to walk on ice, even with their soft pads and two toes. They have hay inside, so they’ll be fine. No pictures of them today yet. Here are some photos of the situation. I figured that you needed a break after my rant yesterday snd I guess I did too. No news available this morning on the world (because There is no power to the tv) and I was a bit tired from monitoring it all day.
Can you see the ice? It’s like this everywhere here. Today, we’ll be getting the generator up and running and lighting the wood stove. Our driveway is an ice rink so impassible for now. These poor trees are drooping under the weight. But they are strong and will bounce back. In the meantime, do something you’ve never done before. Find your passion and explore it. Every single day is a gift. Stay safe and warm.
