Daily Reflections From My Window

November 10, 2021 Wednesday: Slow Down

“We need to get back to just CALLING and talking! No more texting.”

It’s amazing how many Godwinks I get. You may call them coincidences but I know better.Take yesterday, for example. I don’t know if you’ve downloaded the 99Walks App yet through my affiliate link, but it is so worth it for the wisdom shared there. It’s an app where YOU set your walking goals, whether it’s 1 mile or a hundred (or more) per month and when you accomplish it, they send you a wonderful bracelet with the theme of the month. Last month’s was “Simplify”. This month we are working on “Quiet Gratitude”. I need both of those themes. Along the way, founder Joyce Shulman and the many inspirational fitness coaches and pack members share walking workouts, motivation and more. I especially like Joyce’s FB Live 8 AM messages. She also writes a blog. Her Blog Post yesterday was about always being late and the stress it causes-on everyone. Guilty here of that. It’s worth the read. I try to be on time, but there is always one more thing I think I can fit in, or one more stop to make. Then I’m late.

Out of the blue, a good friend of ours Louise (who I quoted ) called just to talk. She shared with me a quote from a book her Bible Study group was reading about not hurrying. The quote is from Dallas Willard. “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.” If that isn’t true, I don’t know what is.

Yesterday, I made an effort to slow down. Get some things off my plate. This blog might be one of them in the future. I don’t know. As I was tweaking my new Shopify Store, I got a call from Jack, who was at the car dealer, having regular maintenance done on his car. They needed to keep it longer than they thought, Madison needed to use the rental car provided, so could I come pick he and the grand dog up and take them home? It was perfect timing! I needed a break from my work and a purpose. It was a Godwink. So off I went. And it was awesome.

I ended up taking Madison and Connor on my car and Jack took the rental. We went back to their place where Jack met us and we had such a nice visit. I don’t do that enough. Just take time to visit. Those two have their heads on straight. They have such wisdom for their ages. We just talked. The three of us. We’re all so busy, we haven’t done that forever. Just visited. It was wonderful! Just listening to their viewpoint on things was amazing and refreshed my soul.

Next stop? To hula hooping where it just felt great to move and the music was fun and exhilarating! My favorites-the 70s and early 80s. We were moving fast and that’s where it’s meant to be fast. I was even 15 minutes early, so I sat in the car for a few minutes, caught up on a few texts and went in. Still ten minutes early.

Then on to pick up a scout order from my friend Lauren. I haven’t seen her or her family for a long time. It was wonderful too! I miss them and she promises me that she’ll slow down. God sent me so many people to get his message across to me. That’s why I called them Godwinks. So many of the same message came through different messengers on the same day. I think I got it. Jay was helping me check out me new links and shop site last night (he’s so good at that because he knows sometimes I can’t see what the end user sees) and when there were a few tweaks to be made, I said, “that’s enough. We’ll figure it out tomorrow”. And we put our computers aside and watched our new/old favorite “I Dream of Jeannie”. That was wonderful, just being together.

Slow down today, but try to be prepared so that you aren’t in a hurry. I’m trying to be 15 minutes early for everything from now on, per Joyce’s suggestion. It will take some doing. I’m going to try to call people more and not text as much, per Louise. I’m going to get out more and do something for others, per Madison and Jack. And I’ll get my website up and going so it will work for me, not the other way, per Jay!

If you haven’t signed up yet, but use my 99Walks affiliate link above you get a discount and I make a small commission. It’s a great resource.

In the meantime, do something you’ve never done before. Find your passion and explore it. Every single day is a gift, slow down and enjoy it! I’m off to tend my passion.

Have a blessed day!
