Daily Reflections From My Window

“You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.”

Richelle E. Goodrich

I love this quote and Scripture verse. It’s so appropriate for so many graduates now and for all of us. I know that Jesus meant a different kind of belief than Richelle E. Goodrich means, but we get everything we need from the Father, so to me if you trust in Him, the other should work out, right?

Yesterday, I started my day with yoga at Just Breathe. Yes, I wore my #SierraTankDress as a top. So many people who are giving this a test run are wearing it to do everything in, even crazy things that would ruin their regular clothing. I don’t do that, but HAVE done heavy duty chores that I do in it. I’ve done my barn chores in it. I’ve raked leaves and held them against it while lifting. I’ve sorted fiber. I’ve weeded. I’ve been in this dress every day since it arrived and it’s amazingly resilient. So far, no pilling, no tears, no fading. Now that I have proven it is more practical than my other cotton blend clothing, I want more. What makes it so special? It’s the fiber! It’s the structure of the fiber. Natural wool and alpaca share many beautiful qualities and they share these. Where my cotton/poly one piece jumpsuit was a mess and definitely needed a trip to the washing machine on the heaviest cycle after a few barn chores, the muck just brushed off of this and I hung it up to air out and wore it the next day. I’ve washed it once since it arrived. It doesn’t retain odors. I just need to spin my fiber finer and make something new! Now if you want a dress or pieces like this, I’m still waiting to see if I have been approved to be an affiliate. You might want to wait to order yours.

Here I am with Amy Wess of Just Breathe. Boy did I need that practice! I am in OK shape, and this was billed as Gentle Yoga, but she put us through our paces and I learned from my body that I need to resume my practice several times a week. I will see her again. Then off to the farmers market and community yard sales where I stumbled on this. I got it for Jay and he actually loved it! I know that he misses his friend Doug and sailing with him. This was a great find, especially since we were at Lake Erie last year. Then home to prep my farmers market bounty for the week and tend livestock. I got beets, for Harvard beets and fiber dyeing, lettuce, cabbage, eggs and fresh milk. I’m excited to try the milk. It comes from Guernsey cows, is lightly pasteurized but not homogenized, and has the A2 protein which is not a problem with sensitivity. We’ll try it. I do love milk. I noticed too that the honey bees were indeed cleaning up the area where I had been working the day before. Look how many. Here’s a close up. I will leave it a few more days to see how much they can do. These little things are always busy and buzzing about. Industrious. They ARE honey bees too. I hope they are ours.

Then off we went to this young lady’s graduation celebration. Her parents bought the first house we lived in when we moved here and we became friends! 3 kids later and they still live there. It was a great house. Her mom, a preschool teacher and scrapbooker, did such a fantastic job with coming up with the proper salute to this swimmer! She’s off to Messiah College but will surely miss her Mom’s corny creativity. Just let the names of the signs “sink” in. The popcorn was from Westwood Plaza Theater (PopQuiz), Nacho Average Grad was in front of Nachos, Got Grilled on Finals was the chicken and the cold food was in little pool rafts filled with ice. I liked Jen the moment we met 26 years ago! All pool themed for a swimmer.

Can you hear the birds? The Pa Game Commission and scientists are asking people to take down bird feeders because they are spreading a disease that is killing them when they meet at the feeders. Here’s the link to the info.

It’s a quiet day for Hammy. He’s just lazing around. I’ll get out before I head to a Bridal shower for a very special young lady in Pgh today. Jay will be here watching Connor. He cracks us up. I wish I’d had a picture of this, but Jay told me that yesterday he was standing at the ironing board that I keep in our tv room so that I can iron while we watch something. Darned if Connor, the grand dog didn’t stand up beside Jay just like a person. He is so smart! And he loves Jay. Jay was cutting the grass yesterday and it was killing him that he couldn’t help. I finally took him inside the alpaca fence with me while I tended them. I gave him his “place” and he was able to keep tabs on Jay safely. The alpacas where ok with him there too. This could be good. He stayed in his “place” until I was finished and then we watched Jay together. He’s a great dog. His fiber kind of repels dirt too. He likes my soft seating as much as I do. Look how our view has changed. First it looked like I was looking out at the ocean (in the scripture photo) then it became this. We never know where our imagination can lead using we just Believe. Be that single star. Last but not least, I want to wish my oldest sister Ann a very Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one!

In the meantime, remember to wash your hands, don’t touch your face, get outside for some fresh air and keep the length of an alpaca cria (which is a baby alpaca and about 3 feet long) between you and the next person.

Have a blessed day!
