“Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.”
I didn’t intend to do a deep clean of the barn yesterday. My goal was to give monthly Dectomax shots and head to fiber prep. As I looked around, I realized it was time for an intense clean up. I had just gotten a new bottle of Thieves all purpose cleaner and love what it does and how easy it is to use. Once you clean up all of the old straw and other stuff, you mix it with water, spread some on the barn matts, sweep it across to cover (I like sweep so I can see the foam) and let it dry. No rinsing. It dries and adds a layer of protection. Easy-once you remove all of the junk that has accumulated over time. I clean up the poop daily and luckily we have great barn matts that drain well. I add the wood pellets that absorb moisture and sometimes straw. That gets pushed to the side. But it all builds up. When the weather warms up, it’s a great time to get it out and deep clean. Oh and if you need any Thieves, or Young Living Essential Oils products, I can help with that. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Still working on adding the link.
As soon as I finished, about 4 hours later and let them back in they actually lined up to do their business on the clean matt. Alpacas are known for their potty habits and mine love their matts. Makes it easy for me.
I had another revelation. When we first got alpacas-and I think I’ve posted about that-and learning from the ground up literally having never had livestock or been near a farm having grown up in the suburbs, we learned how to give injections. Pretty much everyone I learned from used a 1 1/2″ needle. My shearer would ask why I used such a long one and I told him that’s how I learned. Low and behold, he’s right. We don’t need one that long and it was so easy yesterday using a 3/4″ one. Fast and still not deep. It goes ITA as they say. In the Alpaca and kind of subcutaneous. I had gotten an extra bottle of Dectomax and in May when I was getting things prepped for shearing, dropped it on the cement floor and it shattered. I had just enough for that months shots. Then I forgot to order another bottle. I usually alternate a few months of Dectomax with a month of ivermectin and had some for yesterday. Ordering fresh supplies is on my to do list for today.
Here’s my new breakfast idea. I’m still tweaking. It’s my take on an egg sandwich. We have a great little maker and it calls for English muffins. I’m trying to be gluten free, and love using leftovers, so I had some riced cauliflower and thought…hmmm. So I took the leftover cauliflower, added an egg white, mixed it together and put it in the sandwich maker in the muffin section for about 3 minutes.
So, the grand dog has arrived and we’ll have him while the coffee shop is open. We’ll head down in a bit. I should mention that the hours of Hooded Wonder Coffee and Records are 9 AM-5 PM Friday-Sunday.
He put his toy on my leg! He’s a cutie and Jay already had him out in the yard playing for a while. I’ve gotta go tend to my herd.
Sorry I’m late again this morning. I think in real time and even though I got up at 6 AM, and was on my usual routine, when I opened my phone to write, it had updated overnight. I don’t like that. Then when I tried to open my email, IT had updated. I liked it how it was. I have to add one more quote because this is so true:
“True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.” Kurt Vonnegut
Interpret that how you will and
In the meantime, remember to wash your hands, don’t touch your face, get outside for some fresh air and keep the length of an alpaca cria (which is a baby alpaca and about 3 feet long) between you and the next person.
Have a blessed day!
