Daily Reflections From My Window

March 16, 2021 Tuesday: Vet Check Day

“It’s not about diversity anymore, it’s about perversity.”

Candace Owens

It takes a little bit longer for the sunrise after the time change, but we’ll get there. The rain makes it a little dreary too, but I don’t think it’s supposed to last all day. I heard the phrase “snow flurries” on the weather forecast this morning and I hope that was for another state, but it was local.

Our vet, Dr. Dan, is due here in about an hour and thank goodness, despite the rain overnight, things seem dry where we’ll be.

I had such a wonderful day yesterday with some very special people! My friend Lauren’s kids were off school. Our original plan was to ski, but as the weather looked iffy, with temperatures that melted all of our snow and the need to make reservations in advance at the slopes, we opted to spend the day here. I think they had fun, but any child who has ever been related to me knows that fun around here is working!

Our workers needed to be fueled, so we started out with Subway. I’m not a big fan of Subway. It cracks me up when I order a specific salad and will say, “just like the picture” but I still have to make a thousand choices. Then with the plexiglass and masks, they couldn’t hear me. The kids loved it though, and that’s what matters most!

After lunch, we got to work, oops, I mean play. I kept telling them that when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. So true for me and I have been so fortunate. I think they fell for it. Scooping poop is a joy and Miller was a pro. I gave him that broom and scooped and he went to town! He’s hired! The girls helped me feed the alpacas. They were great! The alpacas were very curious and gathered around them. They did an A+ job. I think I have 3 new farm hands!

Next up, fiber prep. We skirted out the straight bits and then the kids took turns blowing out the dust with the leaf blower. I think Maggi caught on to this right away. Everyone develops their niche. I have to say that Molli is a very nurturing and encouraging big sister to the two younger kids. Their parents are doing a great job. None of them are afraid to try anything or get dirty.

Miller decided that he wanted to check out what Jay was up to in the woods. Jay was building a fire and as luck would have it, even though the day had been still up to that point, a gust of wind came along and causes the fire to jump a few feet. Always prepared, Jay had water and a fire extinguisher handy and had the situation under control quickly. Miller arrived in time to help sweep up the charred remains and refuel the next pile.

So how did we wind down before they left for their next activity? A swim! They are all good swimmers and actually got me in the pool! We need to use that more.

So thank you kids for a fantastic day! I hope you had as much fun as I had! Miller found this crocus.

So what’s with the scripture verse and the quote from Candace Owens? If you read this regularly, you know that Tucker Carlson is a favorite of mine. I call him the history teacher I wish I’d had in school. Thank goodness Jay isn’t jealous. He just shakes his head. Last night, one of his guests was Candace Owens. She’s a young, black, conservative woman and new mom. I’ve liked her since the first time I heard her. She makes sense. She was talking about how our culture is thriving on shock value these days. Nothing clarifies that more than when you have your own kids or work with young kids. I remember always trying to shield my own from the crazy and it wore me out. Last night, Tucker and Candace talked about the Grammy Awards. I didn’t watch it this year, even though the maestro of the JSO won an Award. Growing up, it was a fun night of good music and amazing fashions. They showed a clip from the Grammys of two women “dancing” in an apparent lesbian sex act singing their nominated or winning song that I can’t even repeat (or remember). Yikes! Is this what kids are listening to and seeing? I remember listening to Hall &Oats on the radio singing “It’s a bitch, girl…” and thinking that was bad. Times have changed. So Candace was appalled because THIS is what is passing as diversity. She puts things so clearly. We need to protect our kids. Who needs to see this stuff? Not me. What do you think? Diversity or perversity?

This morning, Jack called and said that he heard on the radio news that the family responsible for fueling the opioid epidemic is going to pay $4.25 BILLION of their own money in restitution towards recovery treatment programs. Can you imagine that much money? I can’t. Is it on the news this AM? Nope. Will it even impact them? Doubt it. What they need to do is spend some time with recovering addicts. Go to a meeting or two. Read the Big Book. Everyone should read it.

That’s my soapbox today and if you don’t like it, lump it.

In the meantime, remember to wash your hands, don’t touch your face, stay home but if you MUST go out, wear a mask and keep the length of a full grown llama (which is bigger than an alpaca) between you and the next person.

Have a blessed day!
