Daily Reflections From My Window

February 14, 2021 Sunday, Valentine’s Day

With your Valentine be cuddled,

By a fireplace happily huddled.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac, 2010.

It’s Valentine’s Day! How will you spend it? There’s so much hype about what to do THIS ONE DAY. Around here, we are trying to be more mindful every day. It doesn’t work if you only work it one day. So, make every day the day you tell those you love them that you love them.

Yesterday Jay went cross country skiing and to lunch with his buddies and I had a fiber order to prep. When he got home, he had to go to Lowe’s and buy a filter for our furnace and asked if I wanted to come along to get out. Absolutely! Up to Lowe’s we went and in true Jay fashion, he needs one thing, he gets one thing. I, of course, needed to putz around because I needed a few things-and we were out! I asked him if he needed anything else. Nope, just the filters. Oh, and he wanted to stop at GE to buy me a bunch flowers for Valentine’s Day. I suggested that we go the garden area of Lowe’s and see if they had any plants that would last longer than a few days instead, so we did and chose these orchids. I love orchids and these colors are incredible! Thank you Jay!

On the way out of the garden area, Jay realized that he needed some shearing bolts for the snow blower. He said he needed to keep it running for me. See! He DID need something else!

Next? Aldi. I needed bananas. I’ve been eating bananas, celery, onions and olives everyday for sodium. We ran into an old friend who lost his wife about 5 years ago. We shared about what our kids were up to, then checked out each other’s shopping carts. He and Jay talked about the Water Authority and he said how much his wife had enjoyed being involved on that board and then I said, “I’ll bet you miss Sue. Especially this time of year?” He started talking about her. Mindy-I’m listening to you! He thanked me for mentioning her. He misses her so much. His youngest son is still living with him so at least he’s not rambling around alone in the house.

Aldi didn’t have any ripe bananas so we ended up at GE after all. Got a few things that we didn’t even know we needed.

That was enough for Jay. I knew I was pushing it-getting more than just furnace filters! If you know him, you know what I mean. This little trip was my Valentine’s Day gift and I loved it!

Today we’ll deal with the wintry mix. I guess it’s a good thing that we have online church services. The trees all look like they have an icy glaze on top of the snow. The driveway looks icy, but not with new snow. I don’t think we could get out today. We’re prepared though with furnace filters, shearing bolts and ripe bananas. Bring it on!

Stay warm and remember to wash your hands, don’t touch your face, stay home but if you MUST go out, wear a mask and keep the length of a full grown llama (which is bigger than an alpaca) between you and the next person.

Have a blessed day and tell someone that you love them!
