Daily Reflections From My Window

January 2, 2021 Saturday

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”Walt Disney

Gosh it’s windy this morning! We spent most of last evening without power. Thank goodness for our generator. It’s been a while since we lost power, but with the snow, freezing rain and ice, we’re not surprised. But on New Years Day? It’s a good reminder to bump up our readiness supplies, that is for sure. Even though Jay is the king of being prepared, it still takes a few minutes to make sure that everything is hooked up correctly and he does. I watch because I have had to hook the generator up on occasion when I’ve been here alone. He has it all laid out for me thank goodness! But he is so good at listening for what things should sound like and I’m not. Since we haven’t had to run the generator for a long time, he thought it needed a tweak and he did it. He’s so funny-he is not a natural mechanic but he is so good at it!

Here’s the wind.

And then I looked up to this for a blink of an eye and it was gone.

The alpacas seem to be ok today. I haven’t been out yet but they’re all up and moving.

Birds are at the feeder. Maybe that means that the wind is subsiding, though it doesn’t sound like it.

How did you spend your first day of 2021? Here’s what I did! I did the usual barn clean up before the icy rain really started. Thank goodness for bungee cords because there was a thin layer of ice on everything and it makes it handier in icy weather not to have to try to heat up the chains to unhitch.

I interrupt this for another amazing view!

Isn’t this view amazing?

The daily scooping. Keeps me centered.

I think there are many more dogs in this neighborhood. No one seems to know this one.

I thought it was Abby the dog who doesn’t wander but I guess it’s not.

The temp is right around freezing at 30*. Stay safe today and make it a great day. I signed up for a hydroponic gardening workshop today and am looking forward to learning how to really grow celery and other things that way.

Our normal New Year’s Day usually consists of the Twilight Zone marathon. I did not realize how many episodes the kid from “Lost In Space” was in. We both said enough of this. 2020 was Twilight Zone enough!

We are watching a show called “Escape to the Chateau” on Peacock. An English couple is restoring a chateau in France to become their home and an event venue. It’s really interesting because they didn’t have the chateau “listed” on a historic register so that they COULD make changes. I love how they are updating things despite three foot walls and having had no heat, electricity or indoor plumbing. When travel opens up, Jay and I would love to go there! Angel, the woman has great ideas and vision and thank goodness her husband can carry them out with good cheer. It’s fun to watch!

Today is full of possibilities. I think I’ll clean a closet or two. What about you?

Remember to wash your hands, don’t touch your face, stay home but if you MUST go out, wear a mask and keep the length of a full grown llama (which is bigger than an alpaca) between you and the next person.

Have a blessed day!
